Thomas Page McBee is the author of the Lambda Award–winning debut memoir Man Alive, which was named a best book of the year by NPR Books, BuzzFeed, Kirkus, and Publishers Weekly. His follow-up, Amateur, was shortlisted for the UK’s Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction and the Wellcome Book Prize, and named a best book of the year by many publications. In the course of reporting the book, McBee became the first transgender man to fight in Madison Square Garden. His essays and reportage appear in The New York Times, The Atlantic, GQ, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Travel + Leisure, and many other outlets, and his work has been longlisted in Best American Sports Writing, recognized by the North American Travel Journalists Association, and supported by residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo. His forthcoming book on journeying into American history, Trans Time Travel, will be published by Scribner in 2027.
